Meet Karen
Hi I’m Karen Tenenbaum, mother, wife, Holistic Health Coach, Digestive Health Specialist, Certified Natural Health Professional, Certified Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor…
Outwardly, that’s who I am. But inside, there is so much more that brought me to all these identities.
A devout ballerina for most of my childhood and teens, I battled anorexia and bulimia. I loved food, I feared food, I loathed my love and fear of food.
We are all imprinted from childhood with a relationship to food.
For most, it is an emotional attachment.
For me, it was the chance to spend some time with my mother as she alternated binge eating with guilt, all after working a full day.
Do I blame my mother for the guilt and mixed emotions I developed towards food? No not at all.
You see, my mother, like so many of us was simply a product of a culture that espouses diets of every kind from quick fixes to longer more intense deprivations.
As with so many other people, my mother never knew how to connect with her body and try to understand her cravings.
Instead people endeavor to calm themselves down with excessive sugars, causing their digestive systems to stress out and ultimately fail.
I took these same patterns and emotions and ran with them. I developed my own dysfunctional relationship with food and exercise.
The more food I ate, the more cardio I did.
The less food I ate, the more cardio I did. It was really a vicious circle of patterns I did not realize were fixable. Was I alone? Nope, most teen girls kept me company in these sentiments
Several years ago, I went back to school to obtain my holistic health training and my eyes opened. I learned just how powerful food is, but powerful in a good way.
Food actually heals! It is not a foe.
- I learned to embrace the magnitude of healing and supporting foods.
- I learned to love good fats, not fear them.
- I learned to stop counting calories and count goodness.
- I learned to feed my body, my precious body.
And most of all, I learned to love my body and hear it when it spoke to me.
In my practice, Guiding Hand Nutrition, I have worked with many people of varied experiences. Men, women, kids, all utterly connected in an emotional way to food.
I have helped them understand that connection, overcome food based obstacles and improve their emotional and physical health.
I hope you will allow me the chance to take this journey with you and give you your own power resulting in a stronger, more whole and vital you.
